"My most recent analysis ... reveals a striking trend: A generation of conservative young priests is on the rise in the U.S. Church." - Fr. Andrew Greeley, in the article, "Young Fogeys", from The Atlantic Magazine. January, 2004.

still packing, started moving
Sorry I've gone quiet on the blog front. I've been packing since last week, and for the past few days I've been loading up my car and bringing stuff over to the new rectory.
Father Jay, I hope you have some help with your move. Our pastor is on the move also. He is Msgr Ed Filardi who was at Mount St. Mary's at the same time you were there. After seeing you on the Journey Home I asked him and he remembers you. We are going to miss him very much as I am sure you will be missed also. Your blog is very inspiring. I thank God every day for all you young fogeys. Mary Ann Washington, DC
Yes, I know Msgr. Filardi. We didn't actually attend the Mount at the same time (he graduated in May of 1994; I began that August), but I got to know him when he'd visit and through priests who were friends we have in common. A good man who was witness to history, having attended the 2005 conclave with Cardinal McCarrick.
I certainly don't envy you. As I look around our house that we've lived in the past 26 years I shudder to think of going through and packing to move. We still have my 2 sons stuff who are in college and renting houses. Maybe a good exercise or offering up for those that I pray for would be to go through and "clean out" as if I was moving!! Good luck and God Bless.
Dear Fr Jay Glad to hear you are moving in and I sympathize with you about the packing. I am packing also, but it's for a 12 day vacation. Just a bit different. I will miss your first 2 weeks at St Lawrence, but I look forward to meeting you when I get back. I am sure your parishoners are going to miss you just as we will miss Fr Joe But WELCOME to your new Family. Paulette

I can't imagine how people do this when there's also furniture, appliances, and children involved.
We are so very sad to hear that you are leaving us! It seems as soon as we get close to a priest, they take him away from us.
We are happy to hear that you are getting your own parish but...geez....why can't we have you stay @ St Thomas???
We hope to get to see you before you leave-please know that you have a very special place in our hearts and will not forget you!

Welcome to St Lawrence.
I hope it is a smooth transition for you and not too stressful.
I look forward to meeting you real soon.
