"My most recent analysis ... reveals a striking trend: A generation of conservative young priests is on the rise in the U.S. Church." - Fr. Andrew Greeley, in the article, "Young Fogeys", from The Atlantic Magazine. January, 2004.

Well we're living here in Allentown, and they're closing all the factories down.
Today's front page of the Express-Times has the story about the Diocese of Allentown's merging of parishes, bringing the number down to 104 from 151. Check it out.
They're doing the same here in the Trenton Diocese. My parish's merger will be complete by the end of the month. South of me, the Camden Diocese is taking even more drastic steps--when they merge parishes, they are only keeping 1 building open of 2 or 3 churches. It's a sad reality. We are dealing with it here, the best way we know how, and trying hard to stay positive. There are many people who are only finding the negatives in the situation and many who are taking the opportunity to just walk away. Please remember in your prayers all involved in the merging & closing of parishes. It is not easy.

Maybe it's for the best. If a parish isn't cutting the mustard maybe it should be closed down.
