"My most recent analysis ... reveals a striking trend: A generation of conservative young priests is on the rise in the U.S. Church." - Fr. Andrew Greeley, in the article, "Young Fogeys", from The Atlantic Magazine. January, 2004.

Avery Cardinal Dulles - R.I.P.
Word came late last week about the death of Cardinal Dulles, one of the true giants of American theologians.
Back in September of 2005, I interviewed His Eminence for my diocese's radio show. We spoke about a book he had written on then history of apologetics. If you'd like to hear the interview, click HERE.
I had the honor of meeting His Eminence quite by accident about 25 years ago. At the time I was a Marine stationed at Quantico, and I was a pall bearer at a funeral for a retired General officer that was held at St. Matthew's Cathedral. He was one of 4 or 5 priests who were present as celebrants.
I didn't know who he was then; all I remember is that he was a very nice, kind, elderly priest who was extremely eloquent. And he had a really warm spot in his heart for Marines - I suspect from his time in the Navy during the second world war.

Thank you for this, Fr. Jay.

May he rest in peace.
